While sometimes hard to watch, Winter’s Bone is also haunting and very visual in its own unique way. The movie gives up and coming star Jennifer Lawrence a chance to be fully noticed with her acting abilities pre-Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook. While the tone and setting of the movie is slow, its messages are powerful none the less and although all hope may seemed to be lost throughout the film for the main characters, hope can remain even in the dismal of places.
