Kat Wright & The ISB get soulful on By My Side, A+

Even though they've been around the Burlington music scene for over half a decade now, Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band have finally released their first full length album: By My Side. The result is a superb soul record that will put these extremely talented musicians on the map.

There's one word to describe Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band: Powerful. These Vermont musicians (Kat Wright is actually from New York) know what the hell they are doing. With By My Side, the band takes their live shows to the studio. Surprisingly, the music sounds just as great on record. It's one of those records where you need to crank it up and really enjoy every tune.

That's because every tune, although in the same genre, are very different from one another. You never get bored listening to By My Side, and at the end of it, your wanting more and more.

Burlington music fans have feared that once the group would start gaining the publicity their getting now, that Kat Wright would go down Grace Potter's road and turn into the next pop diva.

You don't have to worry about that with this band. The band sounds tighter then ever on every song, and you can tell that they have found a great way to balance Kat's powerful vocals with the guitar and rest of the instruments in the band.

From the swinging and catchy "You Got Problems" to the more slower "Come Dance", the songs on the album represent a band at their absolute best. Which is saying a lot for the first record.

By My Side isn't ultimately about how great it actually is or what Kat Wright & the band are doing now, but more so that they have an extremely bright & promising future ahead of them.
The best thing about the record is that it isn't pop, nor the familiar indie rock that's been on the radio for the past several years. It's something new that's coming out of something old, soul music.

Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band are joining the sweet sounds of groups like St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Nathanial Rateclif & The Nightsweats & Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds.
Hopefully even more artists will enter this great genre of music thats becoming ever so popular, branching away from the constant pop and indie music that's plagued modern radio.

Fans of these bands will absolutely love Kat Wright's new record, By My Side. It's worth getting for any jazz & blues fan as well, and hopefully this means more success for the Burlington, Vermont musicians.
A+
