This year, you can head to your local concert venue and catch a great punk show-Dropkick Murphy's and Rancid. The two are joining forces for their 'From Boston to Berkeley Tour'. The Murphy's are still a powerful force in punk rock today, and their shows are well worth the time and admission wherever you live.
It's not like Massachusetts boys Dropkick Murphy's aren't fading out anytime soon. They have an impressive nine albums under their belt. Their newest record, 11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory, was released earlier this year. The album was a pleasant return for Dropkick Murphy's original Irish upbringings and punk songs, complete with a collection of great tunes that were a worthy addition to their catalog.
The Dropkick Murphy's are best known for their earlier record, the Warrior's Code, which received an RIAA Gold in sales when it was released in 2005.
The Murphy's have been releasing albums since 1998, and their beginnings can be traced back to more than twenty years ago in the great state of Massachusetts.
What's great about Dropkick Murphy's is that they love the music they've created. You can for sure be expected to hear 'Kiss Me I'm Shit faced' and 'I'm Shipping up to Boston' at any one of their shows.
As you might expect, going to a Dropkick Murphy show is a pure example of how punk is still strong in the USA today. Their shows are always bursting with energy from both the band and the crowd. The band connects with their fans at each show extremely well, and many times they often bring up some lucky crowd goers up on stage during the encore. But let's not get into it too much and spoil all the fun!
That being said, the Dropkick Murphy's are opening for Rancid this summer with a 24 date tour that expands from coast to coast.
What makes this an even more reason to see them in Bangor is that this is where the tour kicks off, right at the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion. The tour ends a month later at Los Angele's It's Not Dead Fest. It's always great to see bands perform the first date of their tour, especially groups like Rancid & Dropkick Murphy's who are just bursting with energy and ready to play live and melt some faces.
It might be a Thursday night, but instead of watching some television, why not head out and see a great punk show?
