Roma is a masterpiece, A+

Much like his other works, Roma represents the best of Alfonso Cuaron and what modern day cinema is all about. It's one of the best films of 2018, and one of the best of Cuaron's career.

The director of Children of Men & Gravity returns with Roma, a film. that's ground breaking in every way you can think of. Netflix is desperately trying to get into the Oscar race these past few years, and with Roma, it finally might. But Roma isn't just about getting an Oscar or even a nomination-it's unique and incredible film making. It's daring, and the result is an extremely emotional, near perfect film that starts off slow, but becomes a roller coaster filled with events and story lines in the final chapter. The best part of it is that all the events and characters in Roma were actually true.

One of the best things about Roma is newcomer actress Yalitza Aparicio, who plays Cuaron's made from his childhood in the film. It's the Mexican actress's first ever performance, and she is simply spell binding. Her performance is just as great as any of other great performances this year by Hollywood Stars, and that's saying a lot. In fact, Aparicio truly caries the movie and within the first thirty minutes of the film, your captivated by her performance. And that is what acting should be. Simply put, Aparicio's performance as Cleo is by far one of the best performances of 2018.
Aparicio isn't the only unique and amazing thing about Roma.

It's a reminder of the old 40s and 50s Italian film masterpieces that told compelling, emotional and complex stories. Roma is just the same. It has a slow start, and at first, the cinematography takes a bit to get use to, but by the end of the film, you can understand why they filmed it that way. It represents the best-and worse of Mexican culture in the 1970s.
Roma is truly a beautiful film from beginning to end. It's unlike all the other films out there today, and it's by far the most original and creative idea Netflix has done by far. The black and white subtitle film maybe hard to invest to watch, but the pay off is big to those who stick around and watch it until the end.

Through it's center, Roma is a film that's done so well because the director understands it and knows it. And why shouldn't he? It was his own childhood home and life that the film is based on.
Cuaron is by far at the top of the game with his new film, and instead of shooting for big screen special effects, he does just the opposite with this. It's also a great film to be released in the current times, and especially this year. Able all else, you can truly understand how it's like to live in Mexico as a middle class family.
A+
