This past Friday night, Carbondale folk singer Natalie Spears enchanted the Freight in Leadville during their summer concert series. It was a great night filled with great songs and discussions with Natalie.

Colorado based singer song writer Natalie Spears graced Leadville this past weekend with an album release party at The Freight. While originally scheduled to be outdoors, the incoming constant rain and afternoon thunderstorms forced the organizers to move the show in doors, which might have been a better decision overall despite the weather.

Around a half dozen folks showed up for the concert Friday night. While it would have been nice to see more people in attendance, this provided a much more intimate experience with the singer song writer. Natalie was gracious enough to speak with everyone in the crowd several times and had discussed every one of her songs on her new record, Hymn Of Wild Things.

The base, piano and sounds of Natalie's acoustic guitar and banjo filled The Freight Friday night with peaceful and enchanting music. Some of her folky tunes may have sounded like they belonged to Middle Earth, but that evening they were in Leadville.

Natalie experiments with interesting sounds on her new album. One of the highlights of the nights was when she explained about capturing sounds from live Sand Hill Cranes for a song influenced by the cranes themselves. 'We had to hunt down a pair of Sand Hill Cranes early in the morning to capture their sound to include in the song,' Natalie explained.

Natalie's three-piece band is a show worth going to, and she is a rising force in the Colorado folk music scene.
