Mandy is an exceptional new cult classic, A
Nicolas Cage is back with a new indie Grindhouse film called Mandy. It's visually striking, but above all else, Cage gives one of the best performances of his career as he goes on intense rampages throughout the film.

12 Years A Slave is one of the hardest movies to watch you'll ever see
What: Movie Review
12 Years a Slave
When: December 23, 2013
Short Review:
It's a buzz this year for Oscar picks & Golden Globes. 12 Years A Slave, based on the novel and directed by Steve Mcqueen III, is a modern masterpiece. The movie focuses on the fascinating life of Solomon Northrup, a free African American man living in New York who was sold into slavery in Washing in 1841 to 12 unthinkable years of slavery. 12 Years a slave is incredibly hard to watch. It's a reminder of the effects from Passion of the Christ. The film is insanely brutal and violent and should be cautioned by all before seeing the absurd horror that takes place. However, its an important piece of cinema that reflect on America's dark past and should be watched by all as a reminder of what life was like in the south pre Civil War times.
In Depth Review
Everything about the film is centered around the life of Solomon Northrup, who's brilliantly played by up and comer actor Chiwetel Ejiotor. He will no doubt get a nomination for this part. He plays the character to a T, and various times throughout the film, the audience is subjected to how much true emotion and suffering the character is going through simply by screen shots of the actor's face and expressions. The film also benefits from a strong cast who all play their parts exceptionally well and is produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B studios. Brad Pitt is also in a small but crucial part of the film and does a great job acting for the several minutes he's on screen. Other actors who do fine jobs as slave plantation owners or sellers are Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti and the obvious villain of the story Michael Fassbender.
Make no mistake. 12 years a slave is one of the most hardest films you'll ever see. At some parts of the movie the toughest movie goers will have to look away from the screen from the intense violence. It sends the watcher into darkness, however, with all that darkness, there is a bleep of hope at the end for poor Solomon. This film will become an important piece of American film history, and while it is hard to watch, it serves is purpose as a modern masterpiece in film making that's beautifully shot, directed and acted by everyone involved.
The only disadvantages of the film is that it is a bit too long, and some shots and scenes of the movie do not necessarily need to be included. However, those are minor details compared to the overall importance and greatness of 12 years a slave.

Oblivion is short handed
What: Movie Review
What Its about
Earlier this year saw the first release of what would be to come many sci fi blockbusters-both hits and misses, to the big screen. Meant to be a beginning summer block buster, Oblivion wants to be a sci fi epic staring Tom Cruise in the lead role as a 'clean up' crew that's sent to an abandoned Earth and Morgan Freeman as a leader of the 'rebels'.
Review:
Despite some amazing special effects and grande scenes, Oblivion is one of those movies that lack from a poorly written script that could have made the film much better. It has some of the best special effects scene this year in any movie, and it also benefits from a strong performance from Tom Cruise as Jack, who is in a few surprises throughout the movie. Tom cruise proves that he is not in the mood for slowing down as an actor. However, even with these advantages, the disadvantages of this movie are more.
The biggest unnerving thing about the film is that it borrows from so many other movies. At once you feel like you are watching Attack of the Clones, then the next minute it's the Matrix, and last but not least, a rip off of Independence Day is in the works. Oblivion could have worked much more if it had its own ideas and originality, but unfortunately, it doesn't. It will be one of those sci-fi films that tried to make it to epicness but never did.

Stay for the Lovable Humans & Terryfing monsters of Pacific Rim
What: Movie Review
One of summer's big movie blockbusters this year was Pacific Rim, the new film by Guillermo Del Toro. Although the movie may have far much more style than anything else, it's a classic and great modern day monster film that won't have most fans disappointed. The special effects in this movie are simply awesome and awe inspiring powerful, especially the city fight scenes between the Kavu and Jagers.
It has a signature staple of director Del Toro's work, who previously did Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy films and in every aspect, you can tell that Pacific Rim is his baby.
The movie is about the end of the world happening when Giant alien creatures called Kavu erupt from the oceans and start attacking the human race who fight back with giant robots Jagers. So yes, it's a monster vs alien movie but it's done right, far much better than the Transformers films. While Pacific Rim has a bit of influence from Godzilla and the Matrix, it stands in its own league and extremely entertaining film despite it being over the top ridiculous because that is what it wants to be.

Enjoy the ride of Gravity
What: Movie Review
It took a full two days for this reviewer to sum up the best film of the year, GRAVITY. Here is wildfire review's take on it.
Short Review:
From Alfanso Cuorson, the director of Children of Men & Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban comes Gravity, one of the most eeriest and awe inspiring space films ever made. Everything about the film is perfect, and there are several scenes and moments that you won't be forgetting for a long time. Sandra Bullock gives the performance of her career, and the movie proves that Cuorson is one of the most talented up and coming directors in Hollywood today.
In Length:
It seems like it's been years since the first trailer of the film Gravity was released. Now, the movie is finally out, and making tons of money at the box office as well for a sleeper hit. The trailers made the film look absolutely frightening, and full of nausea as you get to see Astronauts in true despair. However, while the film has plenty of that, it's awe inspiring moments, screen shots & sound track make up for it, as well as Bullock's performance. The film is this year's best movie so far.
Despite many fans lashing out of it as a disappointment, the movie is so grand that it makes up for the minor standpoints of the film.
The first 12 minutes of the film is worth seeing it alone as it's truly a defining rush as you become apart of the astronauts working on the Hubble telescope. Clooney plays a veteran astronaut while Bullock is the newcomer.
Sandra Bullock has never been better in a film as has she was in Gravity. You can truly see the emotion and fright in her face as things begin to happen again and again. Most importantly, you believe her and are with her as she struggles to survive in which the film states in the very beginning,
"Life in space in impossible."
Gravity itself is an emotionally wrenching as well because her character goes through so much agony. But above all, the best thing about the movie simply the views.
The views of Earth & Space in IMAX 3-D are breathe taking.
If you learn anything from this movie, it's that if there's an IMAX near you, go see it. Experience the film for yourself. If your a sci fi fan or space fan, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL IT COMES ON NETFLIX OR REDBOX.
Gravity deserves to be seen in the BIGGEST SCREEN POSSIBLE.
Another great thing about this film is the sound track, which at times is almost nerve racking throughout. It's a perfect musical piece that goes along with the subjects and subject of the film.
The best movie of the year, Gravity is one of those films where if you want to see it, you should. Even if you can't see it in IMAX, seeing it in 3-D at your local movie theater will at least be better than viewing it at home on your laptop

Annie hall is a classic American Film
What: Movie Review
Woody Allen's Annie hall remains a classic American film, even in today's standards. The film gets everything perfect, including incredible performances by Diane Keaten and Woody Allen. It's also separates this iconic director's discography from his early comedy films into the ones he began making and were rather confusing. The best thing about Annie Hall is the story telling, and that will forever go down as a great American comedy story. While funny as ever, the movie is also touching & emotional as you instantly begin to warm up to the two characters.

Amour one of the best films of last year & a foreign masterpiece
What: Movie Review
Amour is a film that will never be forgotten once you watch it. It's even hard to recommend, but at the same time, every piece of it is a masterpiece. You see your parents, grandparents and even yourself in the characters that are represented in this film.
The movie follows two aging people in their eighties living in France who love another. Their love is put to a test when the woman goes through a heartache.
Fine directing, superb acting & a beautiful, sad & luring tone make this film a complete foreign masterpiece that completely represents its title. The film isn't easy to watch by the least, but at the same time, once you get to the end of it, it's completely rewarding.

Who: Wild Child
Wild Child is a progressive new folk group from Austin, Texas
Hailing from Austin, Texas, the
music capital of the world, is an indie folk rock group called Wild Child. The band recently received some high critic acclaims
for its previous debut album, and had won the best new band of South by
Southwest Festival 2013. The group consists of lead singers Alexander Beggins
& Kelsey Wilson, and four other members who all play a number of various
instruments. The group recently finished their sophomore effort, The Runaround.
The bands new album is a soothing blend
of indie folk music, similar to bands like the Head & The Heart and Ra Ra
Riot. However, Wild Child is much more folk orientated then these groups, and
you can clearly hear this influence in every one of their songs. Each song is
interesting & entertaining as you can hear the work of each individual
member of the band clearly with their own instruments. Kelsey Wilson has a
great folk voice that blends in well with the rest of the music. The violin, cello and ukulele are all powerful on The Runaround, as any folk music fans will
love this new group.
Wild
Child aren’t messing around, and are clearly one of the best new bands of this
year to emerge onto the music scene.

Prisoners is one of the best films of the year so far
What: Movie Review
Bolstered by its two promising actors, Hugh Jackman & Jake Gyllenhaal, Prisoners is one of the best films this year so far. While its subject matter, & the movie itself can be at times extremely disturbing, excellent acting, strong directing & a vivid screen play make this film a tour de force in the upcoming Oscar race of 2013.
Directed by French Canadian Denis Villenueve, Prisoners is his first American box office film staring Hugh Jackman as a father of a kidnap girl who will stop at it nothing to catch the kidnapper. Jack Gyllenhaal stars as a street smart detective who's never lost a case and tries to do everything he can to help find the missing girls, one of them being Jackman's daughter.
Both Jackman and Gyllenhaal are extremely entertaining to watch in this film, giving their acting a full throttle. Fans of either should no doubt see this movie or rent it when it comes on DVD. While the movie is at times unsettling, it's also extremely emotional, and rewarding as one truly feels the sorrow & grief of the two families involved that have their girls missing. While fictional, Prisoners feels very realistic of what could happen in a situation like this could evolve with normal people and families in dramatic experiences.

Woody Allen returns to true form to direct Blue Jasmine
What:
Short Movie Review
Known for his movies to be either hit or miss, director Woody Allen returns to true form in his 2013 film Blue Jasmine. The movie benefits from a strong cast including a knock out performance by Cate Blanchett. Blanchett stars as a woman in a mid life crisis with many social and even some medical problems as she struggles to find out what she's doing next in her life.
The actress leads the movie in a tremendous performance. Her ability to act is on full display on this movie, and her performance is what makes the film good & interesting. Like most Woody Allen movies, it doesn't really have a beginning or ending, but the acting makes up for that. If Cate Blanchett doesn't deserve the oscar for this film, there's something wrong with Hollywood today.

Rosemary's Baby is a weird horror flic and while nowadays is extremely outdated, but can be still creepy
What:
Short Movie Review
One of the legendary horror flicks of all time, Rosemary's Baby still has a chilling feel to it even when watching it today. The movie has a rather long introduction to it, and the beginning may not even feel like a horror movie at all, but once it gets into it, the chills of Rosemary's Baby lies within the characters themselves. The film raises the question as do you really know someone, and what kind of things may they be hiding and will try & cover up at all costs? The film also displays the power of satanic cults and the possibilities of them actually being around in modern American society. The movie is brought to life by a powerful performances from Mia Farrow & Ruth Gordon.

Jackie Brown brings a lighter side to Quentin Tarantino
What:
Short Movie Review
Tarantino's 3d film is the ambitious Jackie Brown. The entire film was a remake over of the film made just 3 years prior called Rum Punch. Plenty of twists & turns, interesting characters and always with Tarantino, a delightful storyline, make Jackie Brown a huge success. The film also benefits strong acting from of course as always present in Tarantino films Samuel L. Jackson along with a strong came of wit & charm. Tarantino proves he still has it, and his career is truly blossoming with Jackie Brown.

Insidious is only an average horror flick, & nowhere near as good as the Conjuring, but still packs some scares
What: movie Review
From acclaimed horror director James Wan, the creator of Saw, comes Insidious, a haunted house film that puts a twist on the genre. While many parts of the movie are flawed, the film still packs in some scares, and its interesting & different look on the haunted house genre makes it somewhat of a good horror flick worth watching and not completely bad. Its also a relief to see James Wan take a different path from Saw and his earlier works to create something different with no slasher elements and old school scares.

Les Miserables is entertaining despite shaky close ups, awkward camera shots and a lukewar performance by Russel Crowe
What: Movie Review
Taking base from the longest running musical in history, Les Miserables mostly benefits from an incredible cast. Its storyline is rather interesting as it also takes place during the French Revolution, and the characters are likable and forth coming. Everyone in the film, especially Anne Hathaway, seems to outshine a reluctant Russel Crowe, who seems to shrug this one off. However, brilliant acting and singing come from everyone else involved with the film, and its pretty much a dream cast consisting of Russel Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Amanda Seyfried. Overall, the film is entertaining despite too many close ups, Crowe, and some even more awkward camera shots that make for some confusing angles.

Born on the 4th of July is an intriguing Vietnam War film
What: Movie review
Oliver Stone directs this film that was one of the staples of an early Tom Cruise, before his Mission Impossible days and Scientology. Cruise is actually simply amazing in this film, and he no doubt carries this movie as its clear Stone has found a perfect leading man. Cruise's passion and acting lets you truly experience what his character as a Vietnam war vet is actually thinking and feeling. He was unfortunately robbed for the Oscar for this one and should have deserved it.
