In all of its glory, The Place Beyond the Pines feels like a masterpiece, but somehow just barely misses the bullet. While it does boast great performances from its stars, Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, the film feels chopped up and in too many pieces at sometimes. Known for the now cult film Blue Valentine, writer director Derek Cianfrance tries to reach for the same type of connections in his new film, The Place Beyond the Pines as it feels like its almost a sequel to BV but again just misses the beat and greatness of the first film.
