Despite having Steven Spielburg written all over it, War Horse is overshadowed by too much sentimental value. The film truly wants to be an epic, and it does display some powerful scenes in Europe during WWI. However, this Spielburg drama is almost too heavy with its own weight and falls short of being the masterpiece it wants to be. Nonetheless, it should please war and Spielburg fans a like that aren't expecting a knock out here. But in 10 years time, War Horse maybe a forgotten film next to the director's other masterpieces.
