This past Saturday night, the all-female girl bluegrass band Big Richard returned to 10 Mile Music Hall for the second time and provided a fun and fast paced dancing filled evening.
The girls in Big Richard show know how to put on a party, and they were more lively than ever Saturday night when they headlined the 10 Mile Music Hall in Frisco, CO. While we missed last year's show, we were there this year, and the group performed exceptionally well providing mostly fast past bluegrass throughout the evening.
There were some die hard fans in the audience supporting the girls with their pink Big Richard hats which apparently are pretty exclusive. One fan in the audience, Katie, told us this was her 69th Big Richard show, and that's quit the accomplishment. Katie also attended the band's previous night show in Avon which was even a smaller venue then the 600 to 700 seat 10 Mile Music Hall. All of the girls were in high spirits and provided some comical relief throughout the night, and you could tell they were definitely in an all-girl band with how they joked around and talked to each other throughout the set.
It was a great weekend of bluegrass overall and a good preview for this weekend's upcoming WinterWonderGrass festival where we saw an exceptional show by AJ Lee & Blue Summit in Denver the previous night.
The opening band was from Summit County and provided a good mixture of their own tunes and covers, warming the crowd up nicely for the main act.
Big Richard has a brand new album out, so they were mostly promoting new songs from that record that was just released in 2026 named "Pet". However, the set list did include some Big Richard classic songs from their previous album, including "The Missing Stairs and "The Town Line". Another highlight of the evening, like AJ Lee & Blue Summit the previous night, the band performed a few special songs on the encore in the middle of the crowd acoustic with no microphones or stage equipment, which is a great crowd interaction thing to see for any group.
Each of the girls in the band were incredible, but the stands out on Saturday night was lead singer and multi instrumentalist Bonnie Sims and cello player Joy Adams. These two ladies were on fire the entire night, but all of them provided amazing solos. Perhaps the best part and entire highlight of the evening was how well the girls harmonize with each other, which they did extremely well in every song.
Big Richard are great to see live, and absolutely worth watching at a festival or their own headlining show.
