This past Thursday night, The Lariat in Buena Vista's first sold out show of 2026 happened to be two colorado bluegrass groups: Clay Street Unit and High Country Husle.
Both groups were that high paced bluegrass that many people loved, and it was completely packed in the small bar and stage area of the Lariat for Thursday night show. There was a waiting list to get in, which doesn't happen too often in the small mountain town of Buena Vista. There were around 200 packed concert attendees in the small venue, mostly young folks and a good mixture of both males and females, with lots of witches and gouls in the audience with it being close to Halloween Weekend.
High Country Hustle started things off to the packed crowd with a high energy 1 hour set. They proved to be great openers for Clay Street Unit. Hailing from Durango, we've seen High Country Hustle already a few times this year, and this was by far the best time we've seen them. The packed crowd provided it's own energy that the group played off extremely well, and it was also fiddle player David Delaney's birthday.
Clay Street Unit had already sold out a 1,500 seat venue in Boulder a few nights ago, and now that trend continued with Buena Vista. The Colorado group performed all their hit songs with around half a dozen covers to a very dance friendly crowd. Everyone was singing along to most of their songs. While their was certainly some Buena Vista folks in the audience, alot of people came from all around Colorado, even Fruita, to see the show who have never been to The Lariat. Large groups of friends had also come up from the Denver area where Clay Street now hail.
The group performed all their hit songs, including "Let's Get Stoned", "Rollin" and "Freightliner Blues." They also played at least one Grateful Dead song and some other enjoyable covers.
Overall, it was a great show to attend with both bands performing great. It wasn't perfect by many means, with the crowd causing a very intense and intense standing room that normally has around half or less of the people in attendance for most shows, but it was great seeing it sold out for fellow Colorado musicians.
