Furiosa is a beautiful but brutal return to the Mad Max universe, A-

While it may not be as great as Fury Road, Furiosa is one of the better films of the Mad Max franchise filled with brutality and enough wasteland car chase scenes to satisfy any fan.

Mastermind director George Miller returns to complete his Mad Max saga with 2024's Furiosa. The movie certainly isn't perfect, and nowhere near as great as his last work, Fury Road, but there's some certain charms to it that make it work. One of those charms is Chris Hemsworth, who absolutely steals the movie.

One of the things that made 2015's film Fury Road so great was how raw the movie was, from the beginning to end. It was something new and fresh and breathed new life to the Mad Max franchise, making it the greatest action movie of all time. Furiosa has some of these things thrown into the movie, but it just doesn't feel as great or grand as the previous film for several reasons.

One of those reasons is the movie's length, a near 3-hour film that could have easily cut off some extra lengthy scenes to make it a bit shorter. Action films as a rule should never really be over 2 hours, and it felt a bit extra lengthy towards the end of the movie.

Charlize Theron was one of the things that made Fury Road so great and what made the Furiosa character. While Anya Taylor Joy did a great job with making the character her own, but it was a huge miss not seeing Charlize at all during the entire movie.

It was Chris Hemsworth who played an incredible villain of the movie. Every time we got to see him on screen we were cheering more for him, despite him being a bad guy.

The epic large shots of the desert wasteland were absolutely incredible, beautiful, and scary. Of course, the car chase scenes that made Mad Max are greater in Furiosa than perhaps any other Mad Max movie.

It was also good to see so many additions to the original Mad Max universe being expanded in Furiosa, including shedding more light on Gas Town (Mad Max: Thunderdome), and the Citidel (Furiosa). It was great to see a younger version of Fury Road's villain, Immortal Joe, back in an important part in this movie too.

Overall, most Mad Max fans will love the movie as I did. It's absolutely worth it to see in the theaters, especially if you enjoyed Fury Road.
