One of everyone's favorite indie folk groups, The Head and The Heart, performed a riveting show at Aspen's Belly Up this past Thursday night to a once again sold-out crowd at the small 450 seat venue.
The Head and The Heart has become a full force touring band over the past few years, selling out headlining shows at big venues like Red Rocks. To catch the band live at a small venue these days is rare, especially at a place as small as Belly Up. However, the group seems to love performing that venue. "We've played Aspen four times over the past year alone, we feel like we live right down the road at this point," proclaimed the band as they began a powerful set Thursday night at Belly Up.
It was a completely different feeling to watch The Head and The Heart perform at Belly Up then most other bands that grace that small stage. The crowd turns into a living thing, and everyone is dancing and singing along turning the place into a giant party. With all the constant sing a longs, the crowd seemed almost as loud as the band was the entire performance.
What made the performance truly special is how much the band interacts with the crowd. Both front men got into the crowd for more than one occasion, pumping the fans up even more.
Every member of the band seemed to love being in the small room, with even violinist and fan favorite Charity Rose Thielen was even getting the crowd going as well bouncing from one side of the stage to the other. The band seemed to have an endless amount of energy that matched the crowd's frenzy Thursday evening.
The band's set list included all of their hit songs that sounded great in the small venue. However, no concert was absolutely perfect. Being up front in the first two rows revealed it was almost a bit too loud for such a big rock band to be in a small venue like that, which caused issues of not hearing some of the vocals throughout the show, but it was still good nonetheless.
The band also played a few songs they've never performed live or haven't played in a very long time, which was also wonderful to hear. It was no doubt an entirely different experience than the band had a few nights ago performing at Red Rocks to go to such a small venue, but it was absolutely worth it. Attending the show, you can tell that everyone there was glad to be there.
