Disco Biscuits kick out the lasers for The Lawn in BV, A

Last night, veteran Philadelphia jam band The Disco Biscuits filled up the Lawn outside of the Surf Hotel for a laser fed weekday evening. The show was better than usual, with superb sound and visuals throughout both sets.

The Lawn is a unique venue as the Surf Hotel usually holds one outdoor event annually, while most live shows are inside in the ballroom. It holds roughly 1,000 people, however, the small fenced in area can feel claustrophobic at times especially with how many folks were there last night.

The Disco Biscuits performed from 630-10PM since there was unfortunately a strict noise curfew for the residential area. The band had two 1 hour and 30-minute sets, with the later set of course being the highlight of the evening once it got dark enough to see all the lasers. The band has an impressive stage set up, and it's no wonder they are usually the only group performing. With such jam bands like Disco Biscuits and Phish that play long extended sets, they truly don't need any openers-the first set is the opening act itself.

"Lots of people don't like the Disco Biscuits because they have 18-minute songs," explained two die hard fans in the first row who have seen the group 25 times. "And that is even longer while play live." "We first started listening to the group in 2006," they continued, 'But when we moved to Colorado a year later and asked for their album in the record store, the clerk looked at us like we must have been on something. So, we had to go back home to Pennsylvania to order their CDs from a local record store there and were glad they had some."

The Disco Biscuits had a remarkable stage set up with dozens of lights and lasers set up behind and in front of the group along with not one but two but six keyboards, a guitarist and a drummer. Each member was great, but the two leading keyboardists were incredible throughout the evening. The band-along with many concert goers wore dark sunglasses all night to help protect their eyes from the intense laser show.

Most of the set was instrumental with tasty jams from all the members, and the sound was also a highlight of the evening. It was one of the better sounding shows of the summer, and as always, The Disco Biscuits are worth seeing-perhaps not 25 times, but at least a few times to get your jam on.
