Crimes of Grindelwald lost its Magic, C-

Despite some clever Harry Potter connections, the characters, special effects, story line and direction of the second Fantastic Beasts movie unfortunately makes it a dud.

It's sad to think that the Harry Potter films are now a thing of the past. The greatness and anticipatation of each of the films releases is also unfortunately gone in today's new movie world, no matter how many prequels can be made to try and continue the classical Warner Brothers November tradition. While the Fantastic Beasts films expands the world of Harry Potter, they do it in the most less than average way possible. The sad thing is, with just a few touches, these films could be just as great as the original HP films or even better.

However, that's just not the case, and Crimes of Grindelwald is not even as good as the first Fantastic Beasts film, which is a huge step down for the series. To start things off, the film has way too many characters and too much things going on. By the first five minutes, your already lost.

One of the best things about the past Harry Potter films were the characters, and of course, Voldemort. The bad guy of the Fantastic Beasts movies, Grindelwald, is by no means any Voldemort. In fact, even though the second film is all about him, he barely says a few sentences through out the movie. Even the main characters of the movie, Newt, Tina and her sister, are lacking any kind of development. If the movie was more focused on them instead of introducing more and more characters, it could have been much better.

Another great thing about the older films were the special effects, but even that, and the magic itself, seems to have disappeared in Crimes of Grindelwald.

Jude Law as a younger Albus Dumbledore was one of the films highlights, but even he can't save it from ultimately being a disappointment. Die hard Harry Potter film fans might be satisfied with the film because it ties in the two series together, but those hoping to see some improvement over the last Fantastic Beasts movie unfortunately won't be getting any better results this time around.
