Christian Bale highlights Vice, B-

Although the movie itself is only sub par, Christian Bale's performance makes it an incredible film to watch. The amount of dedication and energy he puts into his role is what every actor should try and do.

Adam Mckay's Vice is by far the best film of 2018-nor is it the worse. The movie struggles, it plunders, and is confusing at some times, but it does have it's advantages. The highlight of the film is an incredible performance by Christian Bale, who many can say was born to play Dick Cheney. He is the reason why the movie is enjoyable to watch, and from the first scene to the last, it's incredible to see his transformation throughout the film.

It's by far Christian Bale's best performance. Gaining over fifty pounds for the role is only one of the things he had to endure, but that is acting. His facial expressions, the way he talks and moves is almost an identical version of how Cheney actually was. You can tell that Bale put everything in this performance, and to date, it's 2018's best performance by far. It's what other actors should look up to, because let's face it, playing someone like Dick Cheney can be daunting task for anyone.

There's also some fine acting done by the other actors and actresses in Vice's cast, including Amy Adam's as Cheney's wife, Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfield and a surprise performance by Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush. Rockwell does an incredible job with his performance as the president, and even looks like him throughout the film He's a great counter part to Bale's over powering Cheney.
Unfortunately, the acting is one of the only good things about Vice.

While the movie can be funny at times and there's a good hint at dark comedy, over all it could be much funnier. Sometimes the film often struggles to find itself trying to be a serious political drama or more of a comedy, and perhaps with better direction it could have been much greater.

The plot is a bit confusing as well, and often your left wondering on what actually just happened.
However, fans of Bale will enjoy what he did with the film, and in some ways, this is a great example of how an actor can save a movie from being completely horrible.
