TV actress Jordana Spiro directs her first film Night Comes On, and the result is a beautiful, A thrill ride that's not your typical revenge thriller.
It's movies like Night Comes On that makes Hollywood what it is today. Indie films that you may not have heard of but are just inching their way to star dome because of how great they really are, and Night Comes On is a perfect example of this. Newcomer director Jordana Spiro's first film is delightful to watch from the first scene to it's last. Although it's slow at times, it's never boring, and the movie keeps on pumping things up until the final part that's a satisfying conclusion.
Movies don't have to have aliens, cults, tons of action, car chases, or be historical in order to be good. A Night Comes On is a more in real life film than anything that's been released this year, but at the same time, it's a solid film that acts like a revenge thriller. The way the movie is shot and filmed is also done beautifully, representing a fascinating look at how the inner city life of New Jersey looks like.
Even though the movie is slow, it's intense and from the first scene you are hooked. The story line and direction is great, and the scenes are all fantastic. It's more companionable than it needs to be, but that's a good thing. Above everything else, Night Comes On is style and it's story is one that young girls need to watch in today's violent world.
Another good thing about the movie is that it's not painfully long. In fact, it's relatively short time fits in well with the film because it doesn't need to be a three hour movie. It's a short to the point and sweet tale that delivers everything it needs with the short time it does have.
It packs a powerful final punch which makes the film near perfect, but another highlight is the films young stars.
New time actors Dominique Fishback and Tatum Marlyn Hall give great performances as sisters in the movie, and you can really tell how good of young actresses they are throughout the film
.
It might be the best movie of 2018, but it's a different change of pace from your typical revenge, or even female revenge movie. It's proof that indie films can be just as great as thrilling as your average American block buster, and that the movie industry is getting bigger and bigger with more wonderful films that are off the radar, but still enjoyable to watch.
