Top 10 best television shows of 2023

Here are our favorite new and old seasons that were released this year in 2023 on the small screen.

1) The Last of Us

While The Last of Us was released earlier this year in January 2023, it still counts. The HBO show sure felt like this year's Game of Thrones much more than House of the Dragon (although it had a completely different plot, of course). With incredible storytelling and amazing acting in every episode by everyone involved in the show, especially by Star Wars favorite Pedro Pascal, HBO's Last of Us feels like what The Walking Dead could have been like if it was released on the same service. It is no doubt not just the best show of 2023, but the best video game adaptation of all time.

2) Poker Face

Peacock's Poker Face was mind blowing when it came out this year, and for good reason. Each episode was like a movie in itself, and the show of course shows audiences that Natasha Lyonne is not just perfect for the part, but an incredible actress in her own right who can carry an entire season with ease. The compelling stories behind her crazy adventures as she uses her ability to help people is some of the best modern-day story telling in any television program.

3) Star Trek: Strange New World's Season 2

Paramount Plus's is the new home for Star Trek, with other shows on the service like Picard and Lower Decks that have recently been making headlines the past few years. However, it's Strange New Worlds that's the best Star Trek Show since the original, and Season 2 continued with the great success of the first season. With incredible special effects, acting, and story lines, the second season of Strange New Worlds shows that the series is here to stay, and a must watch Star Trek show for fans and non-fans alike.

4) What We Do in the Shadows, Season 5

Hulu's What We Do in the Shadows is by far hands down the best show on the streaming service, and for good reason. This vampire comedy series have succeeded the original New Zealand movie in every way, and each season is just as great if not better than the last. With a new an interesting light to the vampire world, What we do in the shadows does its job best in the fifth season by focusing on its beloved character, Guillermo, with a great story arc that will no doubt continue in the show's final, sixth season.

5) The Legend of Vox Machina, Season 2

Another show whose season was released in January, the second season of Vox Machina still counts as one of 2023's best shows. Amazon's dungeon and dragons fantasy series maybe loosely forgotten by many, but make no mistake-it's incredible television, and especially wonderful animation. Evil Dragons?  Elves? You can find that along with some very foul language and amazing character development with our favorite misfit heroes int he second season.

6) Blue Eyed Samurai

Speaking of animation, let's not forget one of Netflix's best new animi series that was recently released, Blue Eyed Samurai. Set in an incredible background of 7th century Japan shortly before the introduction of western guns and influence, this animated show is simply beautiful, directed by women and featuring one of the best female main characters in animated series of all time. With wonderful animation and complex characters, Blue Eyed Samurai is a Netflix show not to be missed.

7) My Adventures with Superman

We continue with an animated blend of this year's best shows with HBO's My Adventures with Superman. It seems like everyone has a superman story to tell these days, but this little show portrayed an entire new side to the character, portraying him as much more human and with weaker, and different abilities than what he's known for. The three main characters of the show are fantastic, and instead of focusing on Superman's villains, (no Lex Luthor) this show is unique because it focuses on Clark Kent's early life with the Daily Planet and his friendship with Louis Laine and Jimmy Olsen.

8) Barry, Season 4

Perhaps the best acting in any show this year by everyone involved in the show, Barry concluded in a wonderful eight episode series that took a truly different turn for it's main psychopath and the other characters in the show. Much more serious than it's other seasons, the 4th season ended in a great and satisfying way, putting Barry on some of HBO's best overall series to date.

9) One Piece

Although it's more silly than anything else, Netflix did a wonderful job converting the original 20-year-old Japanese animated series One Piece to live action. The characters appear almost exactly as the original, and this is one show that proves itself in many different ways. A good pirate piece that's very different than Pirates of the Carribean movies, One Piece is a goofy, but sometimes serious show that all adults can enjoy and especially warm up to all the main characters very quickly.

10) The Dragon Prince, Season 5

Netflix's The Dragon Prince has always been a truly incredible show, and Season Five proved much better than the fourth season. With better storytelling, incredible animation and fight sequences, The Dragon's Prince's fifth season has restored the show to its original grandeur. With it being #1 on rotten tomatoes best Netflix shows of all time, it certainly doesn't disappoint in it's fifth season. This season has more interesting character development, especially in the villains, and greatly expands upon it's world of dragons & elves and human kingdoms.
