Lindsay Lou is the best at Smalltown for the Cause this weekend in Salida, A-

This past weekend, Campout for the Cause returned to Salida this year with a new festival name called Smalltown for the Cause. While rain delays occurred Saturday (we only attended Friday), a handful of wonderful musicians performed throughout the day, highlighted by several sets from Lindsay Lou.

While originally scheduled on a nearby ranch outside of town and called Campout for the Cause, the festival relocated to the town park where most free concerts and festivals occur during the summer in downtown Salida. A beautiful smaller Ampitheater next to the Arkansas River set the stage for the festival.

Friday's musical line up saw a diverse bunch of musicians. Kicking things off were the WinterWonder Women, who appeared out of place at a summertime music festival. "We exist in a snow globe, and if you shake us up, snow will happen!" explained one of the WinterWonderWomen. Despite having an unusual summer appearance, the girls played an entertaining set with several covers that had the crowd dancing during the early afternoon.

Next up was Kat Factor, who's piano playing provided an interesting turn of pace for concert goers. Unfortunately, Kat was suffering from elevation sickness, so most of her set was sited down, but the young female artist still had a great voice that matched her piano.

Linday Lou once again graced the stage for her normal set after performing with the WinterWonderWomen. The Nashville star was by far the highlight of the festival and her three piece all female band. Lindsay is always excellent live, and she had a good number of dancers up front that kept the pace going during her fast paced tunes.  Baby Bart Tuttle nearly stole the show, with the crowd cheering his name towards the end of Lindsay's set.

Denver country group Clay Street Unit performed after Lindsay with no standout performances but were still relatively good.

However, another highlight of the festival was lead singer and multi-instrumentalists Bonnie Paine when Elephant Revival hit the stage. One fan in the front row drove all the way from Kansas to see them perform. "What instrument can't see play?" she asked as the singer exchanged from an electric washboard to cello to even a bone saw on stage. Elephant Revival were the most entertaining of the day, providing several good visual treats for the festival, including a hoop female dancer and a dragon in the crowd during their show.

Overall, Smalltown for the Cause was worth going to, and we hope it will return to Salida for next year. The only complaint we had for the festival was that it felt pretty cramped at the small park, especially during the headliner set.
