The monsterverse's new film, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, isn't pulling any strings nor is the best movie of the franchise. However, it's fun and enjoyable to watch and most fans of the series will like it.
The best thing about the new movie is Kong himself. While Godzilla is very much part of the film, he's more of a secondary character compared to the monster ape. The film is far from perfect, but if one wants to watch monsters bashing each other and just having a fun time, it's worth watching. If you've already watched all the previous films, than what's stopping you at this point? It's also a direct sequel to the first Godzilla vs Kong movie, so one needs to watch this one first to understand some of the characters in this one and other references.
Another good thing about the movie is the impressive special affects throughout the film, especially with a new look for Godzilla. The monsterverse universe has always been keen towards special effects and they pull out all the punches with this new movie.
Unfortunately, what's often lacking with monster movies is human characters, and that's what makes this so sup par. The human characters were no where near interesting as the first Godzilla and Kong movies, and because of this, the new movie can be a bit boring at times.
Despite lacking human connection, it's all about the monsters in the new movie. It's certainly not the worst film of 2024 and is enjoyable nonetheless.
