This week, Wildfire Reviews had the privilege to speaking with our favorite bluegrass picker of all time, Molly Tuttle. While Molly has never been to Aspen before, she's no stranger to Colorado.
This past year, Molly Tuttle and her amazing group, the Golden Highway, won the grammy award for best bluegrass record with City of Gold. The acclaimed record has won the hearts and minds of many, and we had the opportunity to speak with Molly this week about the album.
Molly has a very impressive tour lined up for this year as usual, with two stops in Colorado: Sunday, August 11 at the Belly Up in Aspen and Aug 13 in Boulder, CO.
"Colorado has such a great music feel," Molly began our interview, "There's always such a great audience when we perform there, knowing when to sing a long and cheer in our songs. There's such a great bluegrass scene there as well, which is why we keep coming back!'
Molly is absolutely right in those regards. Despite the heart of bluegrass music being in Nashville, Colorado is high up in the bluegrass land. The state offers several great bluegrass festivals throughout the year and dozens of music venues catering towards bluegrass musicians.
We asked Molly what her biggest influences for her acclaimed record, City of Gold. She mentioned growing up in California and learning about the gold rush while visiting some of the many mountain towns in that state that were affected by that time in history. Molly herself wrote all the songs on the album alongside Old Crow Medicine Show member Ketch Sector who she's known for some time. Molly Tuttle and the Golden Highway performed a number of concerts with Old Crow Medicine Show this year, and each show they joined together for a very impressive version of Wagon Wheel.
Part of Molly's live shows and one of her songs on City of Gold is her love for Alice in Wonderland. The band performs a superb version of 'White Rabbit', which is a warmup for the band's own version of that song, 'Alice in the Bluegrass'. "I was the Queen of Hearts for my High School play, and I loved doing that," Molly explained, providing some insight on her passion towards this fairy tale.
We also of course asked Molly of what some of her biggest musical influences are and what she grew up on. Laurie Lewis is one of her biggest favorites, along with Bluegrass Around the House and Hazel Dickens.
Even though she has an extremely busy tour Infront of her, when Molly's not on tour and performing, she does enjoy walks and being in nature, listening to podcasts and enjoying an occasional bottle of new wine.
Molly Tuttle is one of the best performing artists you can see in the music industry today.
