It's finally here! Ghosts, messiah's, robots and devils: Here's our list of best movies of 2024!
As a reminder, please be reminded that we are only one person presenting all of these reviews, and we can't watch every single movie, which is why some like Wicked may not be on this list. However, we have now seen around 90% of most of the movies that are on everyone's best of lists. Here's what we think:
The best movies of 2024
1) Oddity
While there might have been other great indie horror flicks that were released this year, Oddity not only takes the crop, but is also this year's best film. Beautiful scenery, acting, directing and above all else truly scary at sometimes, Oddity is a rare horror ghost story that truly works on multiple levels. It involves a tragic but incredible story between two sisters, one a live and one dead. This is what small scaled indie horror films should be like.

2) Dune, Part 2
In every sense, Dune Part 2 was this year's best film. All the other Oscar movies aren't even anywhere as equal as to how grand the movie truly was. It's a science fiction masterpiece in every way, filled with draw dropping cinemaphotography and special effects. If you need to film a sand worm, there should be no other director in mind to complete the challenge than Dennis Villeneuve, who was robbed yet again for a Golden Globe or Oscar nomination for his incredible work.
Where to stream: Netflix and HBO
3) Furiosa
The Oscars have tended to shy away from great science fiction film makers, and like Dennis Villeneuve, Goerge Miller is another one. Furiosa might not have lived up to how great Fury Road was, but it's still a wonderful story to date and one of this year's best movies. It was incredible seeing it in the movie theater, and although fans might have been disappointed Charlize Theron did not return, Anya Taylor-Joy gave it her all. However, the highlight of the movie was a brutal Chris Hemsworth, who stole the show in every scene.

4) The Wild Robot
Just as great as How to Train Your Dragon was, The Wild Robot is truly a remarkable film by the same creators. It's heartwarming story is one that all should watch, even if you're not fond of animated movies. The animation itself is incredible throughout the movie, and the robot is indeed the star of the show. All the animals are great, and the film itself is a reminder of both friendship and nature.

5) Late Night With The Devil
This forgotten indie horror flick came out at the beginning of 2024 and should not go about unnoticed. It's uncanny atmosphere and an incredible lead performance by David Dastmalchian shows it's one of the best of its kind with a powerful story of non believe vs belief. Both truly scary and also darkly funny, Late Night With The Devil is one of those rare horror films that even non horror fans will enjoy.

6) Flow
Another animated film about animals, Flow is by far one of this year's best movies. It's also a completely different film than The Wild Robot, despite both movies being about a group of animals essentially on an island. The animation in Flow is incredible, but what truly makes this a masterpiece is how beautifully the film's story makes it so you don't need any voices to truly enjoy the film.
Where to stream: HBO
7) Anora
Speaking of surprise films, Anora is no doubt one of this year's best movies for multiple reasons. Filled with great acting and a compelling story and directing, Anora follows interesting characters in a more real to life story that could happen any day in modern day New York City. It's filled with slight humor, heartbreak and edge of your seat action. Despite it being almost a porno with high levels of nudity throughout the film, Anora is a gem of a movie that's highly entertaining.

8) A Real Pain
Writer, actor and director Jessie Eisenburg is on full display here. With incredibly impressive work on both sides of the screen, Jessie shows he's a force to be reckoned with. This beautiful, heartbreaking comedy is another real life adventure between two cousins on a journey through Europe. The movie does a fantastic job displaying hard topics throughout the film. However, who really steals the show is a powerful performance by Kieran Culkin who is captivating to watch in every scene.
Where to stream: Hulu
9) Conclave
Every actor is great in this Christian thriller about the Vatican. Although the acting is great, the cinematography is truly impressive in this movie with jaw dropping scenes and images of inside the many rooms of the Vatican. The movie itself is the most edge of your seat film that came out this year, helped with incredible music and acting from beginning to end. And you have to stay for the ending!
Where to stream: Peacock
10) A Different Man
Lead by an incredible performance by Sebestian Stain (who was snubbed with this year's Oscar nominations), A Different Man also has a compelling story that's not to be missed. The film is a mixture of multiple genres including comedy and also a thriller. It might be the most unsettling movie on this year's list, but A Different Man deserves to be recognized by its great performance by the lead man.
Where to stream: HBO
Extra bonus movie:
11) The Substance
Rounding out this year's horror collection is the second film by French director Coralie Fargeat. While the movie's not as great as her first film, Revenge, her unusual eye for body horror and beautiful women is on full display here. The movie itself is the grossest time you can spend for 2 in half hours, but the movie deserves a mention by the incredible performances by it's two lead actresses, Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. Together, these two lead actresses make this one of this year's best horror films.
