Molly Tuttle joins Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on stage at Dillon Amp despite power and sound issues, B+

On Tuesday, June 16, Molly Tuttle joined Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on stage for two songs during their encore including an impressive cover of The Weight. However, during Molly's own performance, unfortunately power and sound became an issue, cutting the set a bit short.

It was a perfect weeknight evening for a concert at Dillon Amphitheater. Colorado blue skies hung over the concert venue with perfect temperatures. It was a bit different from when Molly Tuttle last performed at the Dillon Amp when she opened up for Old Crow Medicine Show a few years ago when there was a down pour almost for the entire show. That show was perhaps the best we've ever seen Molly Tuttle live, despite the rain. This time around, Molly opened for another legendary country bluegrass group, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

There were exceptionally long lines to get into the venue Tuesday morning, even though the show was not officially sold out, it was still packed with concert goers inside the Dillon. Most of the crowd were folks in their fifties or older, who were no doubt fans of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and had followed them for many years. Most of the folks there didn't know who Molly Tuttle was and were seeing her for the first time, which was of course great exposure for her to be introduced to a fairly new crowd.

Molly came out swinging, and her new band was great, highlighted by mandolin player Mary Meyer. Mary proves she is a superb mandolin player and is a great counter part to Molly.  Another highlight of the show was when Molly brought out her double decked acoustic guitar for 'Let It All Burn".

However, although Molly musically is always great whenever we see her live, this time around it was a bit disappointing because of the power and issues preventing her from completing her set, which is why we aren't giving her perfect marks this time around. Hey, every concert can't be perfect, right? We've seen Molly perform well over two hour long concerts, so we know how great she can be.

"I use to listen Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's records when I was little, so now it's comes back around and it's full circle," Molly proclaimed. Despite the shorter setlist, she did step in later during the encore, proving she was an excellent opener for the much older legendary bluegrass/country rock group, and the crowd itself.
