Colorado's own Yonder Mountain String Band performed in Breckenridge Friday night at the Beaver Run Resort Conference Center for Wine Classic Weekend. While it poured at the beginning of the event, the rain cleared out by the time the band came on stage. It wasn't the best time we've seen them, but Yonder always puts on a great long show no matter where they perform.
The band performed for two solid hours from 7:30 to 9:30 with no set breaks and an encore. The event was held outside behind the Beaver Run Hotel at the base of Peak 9 in Breckenridge at the ski resort. "This is the highest show we've played all year," proclaimed bassist Ben Kauffman. It was a pretty surprisingly chilly summer evening especially after the down pouring rain, so no doubt the band was feeling it.
There was a decent sized crowd at the event, containing around 200 concert goers both young and old. However, it was mostly an elder crowd with it being a bluegrass and wine event after all. The band themselves seemed fresh with lots of energy. This is the fourth or fifth time we've seen and reviewed Yonder, and they always put on a great long show. However this time around, it wasn't perfect, mostly due to the rain and weather. The sound was okay but there were only two medium sized speakers at the event, so it could have used some more sound.
We've seen Yonder perform a nearly four hour long concert last time we saw them at special after party one year at WinterWonderGrass festival, so two hours is a surprisingly a bit shorter time for the band to play. Nonetheless, it was still good, and everyone in the crowd had good things to say and were happy after the event. Overall, it was worth going to and if you are a fan of bluegrass music, you will no doubt enjoy seeing Yonder perform live.
