The Ten Best Albums of 2019

Our first review since June, Wildfire Reviews is back with our 2019 best albums! As always, we try and calculate records from artists in every genre. We are glad to be back and representing some of the best music of the year from blues, hip hop, jazz, soul, country, bluegrass, and everything in between!

1) Samantha Fish-Kill or Be Kind

In her most mature album to date, legendary modern blues singer song writer Samantha Fish returns wit Kill or Be Kind. It's a turning point for fish, and although it's more of a professional record than anything else she's ever done, the album as a whole is still pure Fish music. The song writing in particular on this album is some of the best stuff she's ever written, and Fish can still wail on the guitars vocals. Te first song on the album, Bulletproof, has some strong guitar riffs and extremely catchy vocals that pushes Fish to new levels that aren't so raw, but more modern than anything she's ever done. It's an album that never bores you from start to finish, and is an incredible new album from a blues album from an artist we all love.

2) Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds-Ghost Teen

No music list of 2019 shouldn't be complete with the new record from the unusual, and bizarre Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Surprisingly, Ghost Teen is the 17th full length studio album from the group, and the intense haunting visuals the album represents is influenced mostly by the death of Nick Cave's son in 2015. The two record album is fascinating, unlike anything else you've heard in 2019. It's another master piece that it isn't only one of the best records of 2019, but perhaps of all time. Every song is so haunting you get chills just listening to it, and Nick Cave's raspy voice fits perfect with every tune.

3) Lana Del Ray-Normal Fucking Rockwell

The Canadian singer song writer Lana Del Ray has released her sixth studio album to date, titled 'Normal Fucking Rockwell'. The result is one of the best records she's ever done, despite the unusual and profound name of the record. The amount of talent in every song of the album is simply amazing, and the way Del Ray combines piano, sweet guitar riffs and vocals is nothing short of pure amazement. The song writing is exceptional as well, proving that Del Ray may be one of the most hippest pop artists to date.

4) Bon Iver-I, I

Bon Iver's fourth studio release is a stunning visual and musical masterpiece. He's one of those acclaimed artists that keeps on getting better with every album. Everything about the record is the top of the line, and you feel more deeply connected to Iver than ever before. Even the singles on the album are superb and have their own zest to them. It's one of those albums you can listen to over and over again and never get tired of it.

5) Bruce Springsteen-Western Stars

An amazing album to listen to, Western Stars strips down the boss in every way possible. Armed with just an acoustic guitar, Springsteen is better than ever on his new 2019 rather lengthy record. Some of the songs can be both fascinating and mesmerizing, and the album actually plays out like a movie if not anything else as Springsteen travels across the country desperately in search of something. If anything, Western Stars represents a new side of Springsteen we haven't seen in a long while and that's his amazing ability to write short stories.

6) Driftwood-Tree of Shade

The Upstate NY folk bluegrass group is back with one of their best albums, Tree of Shade. Everything about the record is amazing, but perhaps the best thing about is whenever Claire sings, especially on songs long Conjuring Man. The artist has released some of the best vocals that she's ever done, and the future is looking bright for one of NY's favorite rising stars.

7) Jenny Lewis-On the Line

Simple but sweet, everyone's favorite American Indie Pop star returns with 'On the Line'. With her new album, Jenny Lewis seems more mature than ever and has truly defined herself as a solo artist. It's Jenny's fourth studio album, and not surprisingly, it's one of her best. Lewis is one of those artists whose seems to only get better and better over time, and 'On the Line' proves this to be true. The best thing about 'On the Line' is that it's top notch quality song writing with catchy poppy indie tunes that you'll fall in love with and want to listen to over and over.

8) King Princess-Cheap Queen

The new, debut full length album from Booklyn's 20 year old King Princess (Mikaela Straus) is just as appealing as Lorde's first record. She's brand spanking new to the music scene, and every song on Cheap Queen explores who she is as a person and who her musical influences are. Jazz and R&B filled, Cheap Queen is a record that other breaking and entering artists should pay attention to. While some of her song writing might be almost 'too modern', it's full of movement that the world needs right now.

9) Vampire Weekend-Father of the Bride

Vampire Weekend has released their best album so far with 2019's Father of the Bride. While still filled with catchy and pop love songs, Father of the Bride propels everyone's favorite indie artist to more mainstream success. It's a perfect sound track to an afternoon picnic or summer hike to listen to. It screams summer and beautiful romance and weddings, and the male and female due voices on the record are fantastic in everysong.

10) Slipknot-We Are Not Your Kind

Despite the band's recent riots at their concerts, We Are Not Your Kind is their best album to date. Released earlier this summer, it surprisingly shows more of a professionalism to Slipknot than we've ever seen before. It's been twenty years since the group released their first studio record, and now, the band is fearless, bold and more powerful than ever with We Are Not Your Kind, proving they are still one of the best metal groups in the music industry today. Over all it's an astonishing record, and even though it sounds and feels like Slipknot, it's unlike anything else the band has ever done.

Special Bonus: 11) Big Thief-U.F.O.F

Indie Rockers Big Thief from Brooklyn have returned with their third studio release record, U.F.O. The result is by far the best thing they've ever done.  The album is almost dream like, completely different than anything the folk indie rockers have ever released. It screams art, and the talent that's been put into the album is absolutely amazing. The music on all levels is done masterfully well, and the record is both a new pushing point and giant leap forward for the group.
