Jo Jo Hermann and Jerry Joseph jam up Telluride

This past Saturday, legendary musicians from Widespread Panic, Jo Jo Hermanm and Jerry Joseph performed an intimate show at the Smith Opera House here in Telluride to kick off the winter ski season.

There wasn't much besides an acoustic guitar and keyboards set up and used throughout most of the night this weekend on stage at the Smith Opera House. As it turned out, that's all the crowd and musicians truly needed for the small and intimate venue. By the time Jo Jo and Jerry came on stage, the crowd was excited and ready to hear some live music by these legendary musicians. After all, it's only once in a while your given the chance to see this caliber on in such a small venue like the Smith Opera House.

The Opera House proved to be a perfect venue for these aging fellows. The two hundred seat balcony opera house had amazing sound, letting the acoustics of just the guitar and piano flow out over the crowd easily. It was just as good seeing the musicians play from the balcony as on the floor.

You could tell both Jerry and Jo Jo were having fun right from the beginning to the very end of the show. Usually, these musicians are always on tour with Widespread Panic headlining big time festivals like Bonnaroo, so it was special to see them in more of a private and one on one setting. Both musicians seemed to both love the crowd and the venue as well, feeling right at home on the small stage.

Outside, the snow continued to fall in typical Telluride fashion as a winter storm advanced on the venue.
The crowd itself was a mixture of both aging and younger fans from all different spectrums. Hippie love from all different generations made up the extremely talkative crowd.
The only thing bad about the show Saturday night was sometimes the crowd was talking too much during the show, and for a while you could barely hear the music over the voices.
Most of the time, no matter where you were standing or sitting you could hear the vocals and instruments extremely well thanks for a great sound system at the Theater.

It was a perfect run time for the concert as well, as Jo Jo and Jerry gracefully left the stage closer to the midnight hour after performing a full set full of Widespread Panic tunes.
The set also included a large amount of solo material from both Jojo and Jerry, but of course you could tell the crowd wanted to hear more jammy tunes from Widespread.
Over all, it was a great concert and night out on the fun for mostly the locals here in Telluride. The show was well worth going to in every way.
