Glow is a fascinating look at female wrestling, A
Netflix's new show might not be for the faint of heart, but Glow is fascinating in every other way, making it it one of the best new television shows of the year.
It's not for everyone, but those who bother to check out the first season of GLOW will be highly rewarded. The new show on Netflix is almost perfect, with great writing, scenes, and acting that make it incredibly enjoyable to watch. By the end of the first episode your already hooked and wanting to know what will happen next, especially with the intense chemistry between Debbie and Ruth.
While the show centers around women, it's not just about women. It's also about wrestling, and more importantly, it's about the 80s, a generation many of us has seem to forgotten. Glow represents the best of the eighties and how a bunch of nobodies back then could become champions.
What makes GLOW shine so brightly is that it's an underdog story, but the underdog isn't just one person, but everyone. There's some obvious Rocky influences in the show, but GLOW is also it's own beast, and really, there is not much else like it on modern television. It's a new show that's so highly addicting that by the end of it, your already wishing for a second season to come out next week. And why not?
Perhaps the best thing about GLOW isn't that it takes place in the 80s (although this just makes it interesting), but rather the incredible acting and cast. Everyone in the show is extremely talented and bursting with energetic performances, even the side characters. It's the acting that makes this show from everyone involved one of the best on Netflix.
The writing is also top notch, and you can tell because each episode was extremely well done with detail, facts and storyline. The commentary between the characters are brilliant, and by the second episode you'll be cheering for everyone, not just Ruth or Debbie.
Glow also has a killer 80s sound track that goes along with the show's moments extremely well. Above everything else though, Glow's determination to wrestling, and female wrestling, is fascinating. It's a show to watch just for some intelligent information about the ring, and a sport that was almost non existant in the 80s.
Over all, it's classic new T.V. and those that spend the time to watch it will be highly rewarded.
