Hanna isn't as good as film but still decent, B+

Although it might be as great as the B action movie that it's based on, Hanna explores the universe and still has plenty of action scenes along with good acting from it's lead, Joel Kinnaman.
Hanna came out in 2011 and was both a fan and critic favorite when it came out. It was a ground breaking CIA cat and mouse action film that was a surprise within it's over crowded genre. The movie had some excellent grade list actors in it, including Soarse Ronan as Hanna, Cate Blanchett as Marissa and an impressive Eric Bana. Now, the television show continues to expand Hanna's interesting universe. While it's not as good as the original source it's based on, it has a fascinating premise as Hanna explores who she is and where she came from.

There's some ups and downs of the new Amazon show. It's nowhere near perfect, and there for sure can be some things that the show can improve on. However, it's still manages to provide satisfying television even if Hanna herself is a bit less interesting than all the other characters in the show.

One of the highlights of the show is actor Joel Kinnaman, who plays the new version of Eric Bana. He's surprisingly super good, and has a much more on screen presence than the new actress that plays Hanna. He caries the show, and for good reason. You almost wait just for the next chance to see him on screen again.

What's good about the show is how modern it is, continuing that thread from the film. The show is a new updated version of the movie, complete with text messages galore, and how CIA spies operate in the current world.

The show is a bit slower than the movie as well. During each episode, especially the first two, it's almost as if your just waiting impatiently for the action scenes, but that might be because they could have done a much better job with Hanna's character and personality, which was a highlight of the 2011 film.

The the film came out at a time where the Bourne series dominated the spy genre, and to many it was just another one of those movies.
What's good about the show is that despite the slow scenes, there's still plenty of action. It's even more brutal than the film was, and when Hanna does throw a punch, you root for her despite her character being just okay.
The show for sure has more room to grow, and hopefully with the second season already being announced it has a chance to do so.
B+
