ZZ Ward rocks out Denver for 3rd night of tour, A-

This past Saturday night at Denver's Gothic Theater, an emotional ZZ Ward performed a rocking good show highlighting some of her new music that she recently released, and a new album coming out next year.

It was the 3rd night of ZZ's new tour, and she happily proclaimed that this was her favorite tour yet because the band and herself are performing more 'stripped' down concerts. Indeed, they were only four members of the group, plus two additional guests-a saxophonist and trumpet player who joined the stage for two songs during the set.

This time of year is slow season for artists, so it was great to get out on a Saturday night onto town and witness a great blues show. Although ZZ's music is rooted in different genres, especially R&B, it was no doubt that her biggest one is the blues. She commented throughout the night about the blues and how it's been a part of her life and career, and it clearly shows on stage, especially with a more stripped-down performance.

Her singing was top notch the entire evening, and it was great seeing her nice and fresh on the 3rd date of the tour. The guitar player of the group were fantastic and stole the show several moments throughout the evening.

ZZ remarked on how great and difficult it was being a mother of two before performing her new single 'Mother' and afterwards brought out her new 9-month-old son on stage with her. She was very emotional throughout the set, and explained the meanings behind almost every song she played, which was a great thing. Lot's of times artists tend to skip this part of their music and explaining how they wrote the songs, so it was a nice comparison to the rocking good time of the evening.

The highlight was when ZZ performed the last two songs, "Ride" which she was very proud to say is on the Cars 3 soundtrack, and her breakout single, "Put the Gun Down".

Although it might appear to some folks just starting to be listening that ZZ is a new artists-she's been around the block and have toured for a number of years now. Although it wasn't a perfect show by any means, it was great to get out this time of year and see a live performance. 

The only drawback of the show was that ZZ only performed about 1 hour and 30 minutes-including the encore, but in that short time, she packed in a great energy packed show in Denver Saturday night at the Gothic Theater. (We only wished it could have been a bit longer with perhaps some more blues covers thrown in for next time!).
