Jimi Hendrix Experience rock out Landmark, A

Last night, a group of legendary musicians came together on stage at the historic landmark theater to provide an electrifying experience worth remembering for years to come.
It was April 1 and it snowed several of inches in the morning, proving that winter can still be here in Upstate New York during these spring months. That didn't stop rock and roll fans to file into the beautiful Landmark Theater for the 2019 Experience Hendrix tour. The tour seems to love playing Syracuse and usually hits the city annually, so it's always nice to welcome back such an incredible tour to Upstate NY. The Landmark proved to be the perfect choice for these legendary musicians who were celebrating the music of a music legend himself, Jimi Hendrix.

The highlight of last night's concert actually wasn't just the musicians themselves but the beautiful Landmark Theater. This tour and that specific venue fits together like peas and carrots, and to have it anywhere else might be a bit of an under taking. The sound was absolutely fantastic, and you could excellently hear everyone's guitar even in the back of the theater. The Landmark itself is always a wonderful place to see live music, especially a group of musicians as talented as the ones in the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

The night began when Janie Hendrix appropriately introduced the band and welcomed them back to Syracuse. "These musicians are here because they love Hendrix as much as you all do," she explained. Billy Cox was first up in the great line up of extremely talented musicians, and opened the show with Hendrix's "Freedom", followed by an impressive version of "Foxy Lady". Eric Johnson joined Cox on stage for "Power of Soul" and then "Love of Confusion", followed by fan favorites "Bold as Love" and "Are You Experienced?".

Chuck Calvin came on stage, joined by Calvin Cooke and others for an unique and powerful version of "The Sky is Crying," one of the few non Hendrix tunes the group performed last night.
Syracuse cheered and hollered for when Johnny Lang graced the stage, and only after a few seconds into "All Along the Watch tower," with an impressive acoustic guitar, he was by far one of the highlights of the night. Johnny proved his own worth in gold against some of the older guys that were on stage with him.
Johnny continued with a fantastic version of "The Wind Cries Mary," followed by "Spanish Castle Magic" and "Fire".

The first set concluded with Henry Brown and Billy Cox performing "Purple Haze" and "Stone Free."
After a thirty minute break, the group returned to perform another powerful set that didn't have as many hits, but focused more on incredible guitar playing in what the group called, 'Electric Church.'
Legendary musician Taj Mahal graced the stage while performing "Killing Floor," a Howling Wolf tune, "Catfish Blues" and "Hey Joe". Although Taj didn't perform any actual Hendrix songs, it was more appropriate with him doing his own thing and performing some good ole fashioned blues.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience continued with 'Crosstown Traffic'. Things were a bit different when Joe Satriani and his gang graced the stage. The guitars were powerful and almost a bit over powerful but they had the right affect.
One of the best songs of the night of course was when Doug, Joe and Kenny concluded the evening with a killer version of "Voodoo Child."

In all, the group performed for an impressive three hours making the show extremely worth while to attend. Each musician was incredible in his own way, and there was nothing wrong about the concert last night at the Landmark Theater. The only side affect was that the show actually might have been too loud, but given the amount of electric guitars on stage, that really couldn't have been avoided. The Jimi Hendrix Experience is a show that both old and young rockers can truly love and admire.
