Woody Allen returns to true form to direct Blue Jasmine

Short Movie Review

Known for his movies to be either hit or miss, director Woody Allen returns to true form in his 2013 film Blue Jasmine. The movie benefits from a strong cast including a knock out performance by Cate Blanchett. Blanchett stars as a woman in a mid life crisis with many social and even some medical problems as she struggles to find out what she's doing next in her life.
The actress leads the movie in a tremendous performance. Her ability to act is on full display on this movie, and her performance is what makes the film good & interesting. Like most Woody Allen movies, it doesn't really have a beginning or ending, but the acting makes up for that. If Cate Blanchett doesn't deserve the oscar for this film, there's something wrong with Hollywood today.

Grade: A-
