Whiplash is a better film than Birdman, A+

What: Movie Review
Who: Whiplash
When: April 2015
Why: as part of the best movies of 2014

Although it doesn't have the stellar cast Birdman did, Whiplash proves itself to be a better movie over all than the 2014 academy award winner. Whiplash is one of the best films of 2014, and J.K. Simmon's performance as Terrance Fletcher shows that you don't need a power house list of a cast to have great acting.
Simmon is clearly the highlight of Whiplash, commanding the film from the very first scene to the very last. He does an amazing and spellbinding job as a jazz music instructing, despite his character being mean as hell and a bully to all of the students, especially to drummer Andrew Newman. Also giving a good performance as Newman is newcomer actor Miles Tellar (The Spectacular Now, Footloose) who raises the bar on his own career.
Whiplash is just about a perfect film without a single dull moment to it. It's intense and beautifully directed by another new comer director in the Hollywood business Damien Chazelle.
Any music junkie will appreciate Whiplash, even if your not a fan of Jazz music or drummers. It's electrifying and a thrill ride from start to finish.

Grade: A+
