What: Movie Review
Many people may have not heard of MUD yet, but they will. Matthew McConaughey gives the performance of his career that well deserves this year's Oscar for best Actor. In short, MUD is a movie that has has a brilliant screenplay and is beautifully directed by up and comer Jeff Nichoels, who directed indie film hit Take Shelter. This film represents a way of life on the Mississippi River and along the way is sweet, charming, heart wrenching & extremely entertaining to watch.
In length, Mathew McConaughey stars in Mud, a film directed by Jeff Nichoels. Mud centers around two young boys around the age of ten living alongside the shore of the Mississippi. The boys frequently go out boating on the river in a motorized small boat. One day, they happen to discover on an island a relatively newer boat launched in the tree tops from a flood. Figuring the boat's theirs because they found it, they begin to explore more only to discover someone is actually living on the island and in the boat. That person is MUD, played by McConaughey. At first, MUD is extremely mysterious, but as his story unfolds, you are no doubt as fascinated in him as the two boys are.
If you have paid attention to the cinema world lately, you are no doubt aware that Mathew McConaughey has had something of a huge career boost the past several years. Each movie he's in he seems to be even more talented. In his last few films, McConaughey has came out of his shell by not showing that he can just play hot shot lawyers but almost any role. His acting is true and top notch form in MUD.
From the moment he's on screen to the very ending of the movie, McConaughey draws you in and captures every second he's on film perfectly. His emotions, actions and even the way he talks is downright to the T for the character he's playing. Other up and coming actors need to pay attention to rolls like this, because it is these rolls that will defy the boundaries and become legends in themselves that are even bigger than the characters on screen.
MUD also bolsters strong performances not just from McConaughey, but everyone else in the movie as well. The two actors playing the boys in the film are extremely talented and you truly believe in everything they do or say. Reese Witherspoon gives a decent performance as Jennifer, Mud's girl that he's been in love with all his life and is trying to get back to.
Not just a love story and drama, Mud is a fascinating look into the culture of river life on one of the world's most biggest and longest rivers. It also displays a strong force of southern folklore & fantasy, which keeps the film even more interesting despite its very real feel to it. The film is a reminder of the adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It's a beautiful movie, and everyone that decides to watch it will be extremely pleased with the outcome. Everything about this movie is great, proving that new director Jeff Nichoels has a bright future in store for him.
In overview, MUD is this year's best film so far because of the extreme talent that went into the project by everyone involved. If Mathew McConaughey doesn't give nominated for his performance it will be a surprise as this one has Oscar written all over it.
