Grace Potter & The Nocturnals do overtime @ The New York State Fair tonight (Thursday Night)

What: Music Review
Who: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Coming off of a downpour rainstorm that lasted over an hour, the weather finally cleared up for when Grace Potter & The Nocturnals came on stage to the Chevy Court @ the NYS fairgrounds tonight at around 8PM. The crowd was ready, geared and revived up for the concert, with many people coming from as far as a minimal 2 hours away travel time to be there. Like most Grace Potter shows, the majority of the crowd were older people above 40, but there were a few young faces mixed in.
Simply put, those that were lucky enough to be at the fair tonight at Chevy Court were in for one hell of a concert, and one of the best state fair shows ever done within the past few years. When leaving, all you could hear from almost everyone as you walked by of how awesome the show was.
Why was the concert tonight at the Chevy Court by Grace Potter & her band legendary?
The amount of energy given off by every member of the band, including Grace Potter, was simply phenomenal. Every song they put amazing amounts of energy into that bounced off from Chevy Court stage and into the wet and very muddy crowd. Grace put on her dance moves as she swayed her hips, jumped up and down and screamed her heart out as the night went by.
The musicians behind her were the best they've ever been, pulling such powerhouse force in to the music that they were actually well in sync with Potter's tremendous singing. The musicians in her band are a reminder that this is not just one of those bands with a pretty front woman-this is THE NOCTURNALS, and together, they are amazing team.
As soon as the crowd heard GPN's edition of 'White Rabbit', everyone knew they were in for a good night as that song is not commonly played live during their shows. And of course, how could they not include 'Nothing But the Water' after such a downpour that drenched everyone earlier? Even that song was different than most other times the band performed it because it was just Grace performing it with her dominant V guitar giving everyone a fine nice solo. Add another surprise when the band performed a halfway decent version of Tom Petty's American Girl to their setlist, which is truly a hard song to cover.
Alas, one hour in 30 minutes passes by and you would thing this would be quitting time for the Nocturnals. But of course they return with a 30 minute double encore, which included 'Medicine' and a tremendous version of a ZZ top song that got the crowd absolutely wild.
Tonight's concert proved how far these musicians have came from and how extremely talented they really are. Grace gave the crowd at the state fair that night something a little extra. That something being a two hour performance, which never happens at Chevy Court because she and the other musicians that play there are only paid to play for an hour. They played that long because of how good that energy felt that night, which was over the top and accelerating.
Thank you Grace Potter & The Nocturnals for doing one of the best shows Chevy Court has seen in it's recent years. You will no doubt have some new fans after today.
